Hello there, if you're here I guess you must be looking for a prefix so you can name your character (or maybe you were just wondering what this post is about). Either way, you're in the right place. This post will go over how the system goes for how I choose the prefixes.

So, as we should all know by now, the prefix is the the first part of the clan-cat's name. It is given around the time of birth and is permanent. Due to the fact that all kittens tend to be born as fuzzy bundles of fur with their eyes closed, they are named after their pelt color (as this is the only way to tell them apart).
Just to make sure this is clear, we can't name kits after their eye color because they are born with their eyes closed, and the true color of their eyes takes weeks to come in. Also, kits can't have a verb as a prefix as they won't be doing much when they come out. Their prefix is chosen after something tangible, and something the clan cats would know of (aka not TwoLeg things). Another note, mother's probably aren't going to name their kits after something having to do with decay, killing, death, or anything relating to the concept (this includes blood and bone).
So currently we know that a cat is going to be named after the color of their pelt, but what about an unusual feature that stands out? If the mark is unusual enough they will likely be named after it (such as Blackfoot was). However, this may determine the suffix of the cat long before it gains it's warrior name. I may also use caution with this as you have to make sure the type of mark is uncommon in cats (which you can ask me if you're unsure).
Star and Moon are off the table. Both are sacred to the clans, star being the suffix of the leader's name and also the form of the ancient warriors of StarClan as they shine in silverpelt, and the moon helping the medicine cats speak with StarClan when they visit the MoonPool and being a symbol or StarClan during gatherings. The names of the clans (Thunder, Wind, River, and Shadow) are also off the table due to their history.
In the posts for the prefix names, any cat that's one color (besides simply black or white) can be a tabby. The prefixes tend to only account for the most noticeable, or predominate trait in the cat's pelt (occasionally they will be named for unusual size).
Now that you have read this you are ready to begin prefix hunting :3
